160th Anniversary of Friendship Japan-Belgium Event: Lecture “René Magritte: Between Reality and Illusion”

On February 13, as part of the 160th Anniversary of Friendship between Japan and Belgium, the Embassy of Japan hosted a lecture titled “René Magritte: Between Reality and Illusion” at our Japan Information and Culture Centre (JICC), with a lecture delivered by Japanese Western art historian Koji Mori.
Mr. Koji Mori, who used to be a certified guide at the Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium, published the Japanese translation of Dr. Jacques Roisin’s book “René Magritte: The Early Years of the Man in the Top Hat” this year. In this lecture, he focused on René Magritte, one of Belgium’s leading artists, and provided an explanation of the background and intentions behind Magritte’s works, which was very well received.
